Our proposal for Grosvenor Square celebrates England’s rich horticultural legacy, while also providing an active and contemporary public space that changes with the seasons and promotes diversity and inclusivity of all cultures. We started by creating a meandering path where new public spaces and programs are integrated with the dynamic trajectory of urban pedestrians. This undulating outer band serves as an armature for decentralized forums and serendipitous encounters. A new, elevated bridge provides scenic views of the context, including a wetland landscape and lake that connects to an outdoor amphitheater at the water’s edge. Swaths of perennials and grasses, open lawns, and trees are woven into gardens that create a complex and seasonal botanic experience. Finally, an iconic conservatory provides verdant botanical displays, flexible event space, and a sustainable food and beverage program all year long.
